Doug Kook has been the accountant for our Neurosurgical practice for about 15 years now I would guess. We have grown into one of the largest and busiest practices of our kind on the east coast. This was in no small part due to the insightful and stabilizing force of Doug. Our 3-person practice was just starting in 1996 and we asked Bumpers and Co to be our accountant. Over the years, Bumpers assigned more and more of our needs to Doug. As we grew, so did our relationship with Doug.
We expanded to 7 physicians, and 7 Physician assistants, bought a 100,000sf building, bought and sold an imaging center, helped to create Delaware’s largest surgicenter, all while providing care for over 80,000 patients in our practice. Doug has been the rock that we all rely on. I can’t imagine how he has managed to keep all of our affairs straight, yet he has. At one point, during our expansion, I truly believe he was the only human on earth who knew exactly where every piece of our very complex puzzle belonged.
Through it all he has been accessible, appropriately conservative and a joy to work with. He is like an excellent parent or teacher. He is proactive in alerting us to upcoming challenges as well as opportunities. More importantly, when we get a little out of hand, he is capable of reigning us in, focusing us and getting us to go in a positive, appropriate and legally sound direction. We have had 9 Neurosurgeons in our practice over the years, and I can say, without hesitation, that he has earned the unquestionable respect of all of them. No small feat, to be sure.
The doctors can’t agree on what day it is, sometimes, but we all agree that Doug is spectacular at his job, not only as our accountant, but as a key player in our practice. He is relied upon by every single doctor, employee, and patient in this practice to keep the ship upright, stable and properly headed on a straight course. Besides that, we absolutely love working with him.
There is none better. Period.
